“Makeup is not a mask that covers up your beauty; it’s a weapon that helps you express who you are from the inside.” – Michelle Phan 2
It might be intimidating to begin your journey into the realm of beauty, particularly when it comes to knowing the variety of cosmetic brushes that are out there. The range and particular uses of these items may appear overwhelming at first, but they are necessary for attaining accurate and flawless makeup applications.
You may be struck by a huge variety of brush types when searching online; each has a distinct function, and understanding each one's duty might be confusing.
But distinguishing the categories and understanding their purpose can greatly simplify the process as follows:
1. POWDER BRUSH
Using a fluffy brush to apply setting powder at the last step of your foundation routine may help to make sure the product is distributed evenly across your skin.
2. CONTOUR BRUSH
An angled brush is the preferred tool for contouring since it adds definition to the face. The angled design fits just beneath the cheekbones, allowing for precision, and the soft bristles assist blend out for an ideal look.
3. BLUSH BRUSH
The truth is that you can apply blush and contour with the same brush, but it's usually best to have two brushes so you don't mix up the products. In addition, I prefer to use a blush brush with more flexible bristles for a lighter application because it allows me to build up to the color strength I want that day.
4. HIGHLIGHT BRUSH
In terms of highlighting, you really don't need a particular kind of brush—you can apply highlight just where you want it with an eyeshadow brush! But the power of your highlight will depend on the kind of brush you choose.
5. FLAT EYESHADOW BRUSH
When I say "eyeshadow brush," this is probably the first item that comes to you. It's a flat, rounded brush that works well for applying makeup to the lid and brow bone. In fact, having more of these could be helpful in order to dip into various tones without causing color mismatch.
6. FLUFFY EYESHADOW BLENDING BRUSH
You need a fluffy blending brush for gorgeous, softly blended eyeshadow! Everything about your shadow game will be the same. Try to get a brush with dome-shaped, flexible, but sturdy bristles.
7. ANGLED BROW BRUSH
There are instances when you will see two identical-looking brushes with different designations. Depending on whether there is a spoolie on the other end, a little angled brush is also referred to as a brow brush or a liner brush. If you use brow powder frequently, you might choose to purchase separate ones for each function to avoid mixing products.
8. BLENDING SPONGE
Although it's not a brush as itself, it can perform multiple tasks simultaneously! My go-to tool for applying foundation evenly is a blending sponge, which can also be used to apply setting powder and cream makeup like contour, liquid blush, and concealer. For all-over application and corner penetration, the flat edge works great. Always wet your sponge before using it to ensure a gentle blending and prevention of substance absorption.
